Coldplay is a British band comprised of four university classmates who formed the group back in 1998. Despite studying for very different careers, the band members decided to follow their passion for music instead. Their 2000 debut album, titled “Parachute,” featured the single, “Yellow,” which gained the group worldwide recognition. Coldplay is considered an alternative rock band, and have been compared to other bands such as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, U2, and Travis. Some of their massive-selling albums include “A Rush of Blood to the Head”, “X & Y”, and “Viva la Vida, or Death and all his Friends”. Their concerts are known for insanely impressive light shows and coordinated crowd participation. Alongside their success Chris Martin and the band are known for their political and charitable efforts. Some of the causes they have been linked to are Oxfam’s Fair Trade campaign, Amnesty International, Band Aid 2.0, Live 8, Sound Relief, and the Teenage Cancer Trust. Coldplay has been nominated for and won numerous awards over the years, for such things as Song of the year, the Grammys, Best Album and Best Act in the World Today. The band hasn’t neglected their personal lives either; Coldplay’s lead singer gained even more celebrity recognition when he married actress Gwyneth Paltrow, and they welcomed a baby daughter a few months later. The couple named their now-famous daughter, Apple. At one point there were rumours that the group was breaking up, and would go their separate ways to pursue other interests. Despite what people have said, Coldplay continue filling stadiums and fulfilling their worldwide domination.
