About Gnomeo and Juliet
Garden gnomes have feelings too, and none more intense than those of the colourful cast of "Gnomeo and Juliet", a 2011 3D animated family movie directed by Kelly Asbury. Featuring a cast of high profile celebrities behind the scenes, the lead roles are voiced by Scottish actor James McAvoy and English actress Emily Blunt. A charming voice cameo takes place in "Gnomeo and Juliet", namely the characters Lord Redbrick and Lady Blueberry, voiced by Michael Caine and Maggie Smith. These two British acting personalities were reunited in the making of "Gnomeo and Juliet" for the first time since their appearance together in "California Suite". "Gnomeo and Juliet" is based on the Shakespearean masterpiece "Romeo and Juliet". Elderly neighbours Mr. Capulet and Mrs. Montague loathe living next to each other, an animosity which is also reflected within their gardens. Once the two neighbours leave their garden territory the gnomes come to life, neatly dividing their loyalties under blue Montague hats and red Capulet hats. The animosity in "Gnomeo and Juliet" manifests itself in races, lies, and deceit, until Gnomeo and Juliet accidentally meet each other in nearby neutral garden territory. Everything changes and Juliet finds herself defending her new love after a bitter argument between the Montague and the Capulet garden gnomes. Unlike the tragic tale by Shakespeare, "Gnomeo and Juliet" ends in celebration, marriage, and garden gnome harmony. The "Gnomeo and Juliet" soundtrack features a number of hit titles from Elton John, Kiki Dee, and Nelly Furtado. Earning close to $200 million at the box office worldwide, "Gnomeo and Juliet" received acclaim from critics and several award nominations following its release.
