About Mirrors

An incredibly handy part of every home is a mirror. In fact, most homes contain several mirrors. A bathroom mirror is a must for shaving, hair styling, and makeup. Most families also install a full-length mirror in the main bedroom (or all bedrooms) so that people can try various outfit combinations in the morning before selecting their clothes to go out for the day. Also, many people enjoy the effect given by a strategically-placed mirror or two in the main living space, or wherever a bit of extra light is required. A mirror mounted in such a place can bring life and light to an otherwise dead space. Areas such as long corridors, dark corners, and rooms which do not receive a lot of light are ideal places for a wall-mounted mirror. Many other kinds of mirrors can also be found in most homes, such as hand-held mirrors and purse mirrors. When buying mirrors, there are a few points to consider before handing over your money. Firstly, if there is the possibility that young children may come into contact with the mirror, be sure that it is the shatter-proof type. The last thing you want is for a hard toy to be accidentally flung at the mirror, causing shards of glass to fall around the child and over the floor. It is important to remember that vintage and antique mirrors can be gorgeous but not shatter-proof and are also unlikely to have safety edges. The edges of a mirror can be extremely sharp so if you choose an antique piece, make sure the edges are well-covered by the frame, and keep it well out of reach of any children that may live in or visit your home.
