About Sesame Street
Most everyone can sing this song by heart: "Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away". The song is the theme song to the world famous kids’ show, Sesame Street, and kids of all ages have grown up watching the antics of roommates Ernie and Bert, Big Bird, Elmo, and Mr. Hooper. The American series is one of the most highly rated educational shows of all time, and has been since its creation in 1969. The show provides entertainment using puppets, songs, animation, and silly stories while teaching kids how to count, their alphabet, and their colours, among other valuable lessons. Sesame Street has a special distinction; it has won more Emmy awards than any other children’s show. The show airs on PBS, which is public television, but it is syndicated throughout the world. Many of the famous Muppets have walked the famous street when Muppet creator Jim Henson began working on the show with his puppets. Various characters have been added throughout the years to represent different ethnicities and storylines, and one of the most fun things about Sesame Street is that there are always celebrity guest stars engaging in silly behavior. Sesame Street has built an empire, which includes many DVD’s, albums, books, toys, and clothing lines, along with educational items like puzzles and games for young children. The show has remained a staple of many childhoods, and now parents that grew up watching Big Bird can introduce him to their own children. Humans interact with puppets on Sesame Street, providing many lessons to be learned about love, friendship, and learning along the way.
