Apple MacBook Pro 13.3" Laptop - MB990X/A (June, 2009)

It took me atleast 2 months before i finally decided to bid on an apple computer. At my age, advance technology can be quite confusing, let alone threatening because of the fear that i may not know how to use it or if i do, may not be able to use all its features and functions efficiently which would defeats the purpose of machine making life more easier. Anyway, my penchant to learn new things made the Apple computers a great challenge. I guess getting enough courage to buy myself an Iphone made it easy for me to try another Apple device. Why Macbook Pro? Before buying anything, i always do a great deal of research both online and through other people's opinions and reviews. After, comparing different MAC's, i tried out the Apple store online tutorial on how to use it, just to see if i can handle such a beauty.

First the advantages: You don't have to worry about viruses and worms, hence no need to purchase expensive anti virus softwares. Secondly, I chose MBP 13" because the size makes it versatile both for desk use and for travel and it is lightweight enough for carrying it around in a small protective carry all laptop bag with shoulder strap that can double as a multipurpose bag. Thirdly, don't let the sleek, thin and lightweight body fool you, coz its packed with dynamic speed and capacity to do the big IT tasks usu. seen in bigger machines. The backlighted keyboards makes working in dim surroundings possible and the screen resolution is fantastic. One more great main feature worth mentioning is the trackpad which is almost magical with all its gestures, though being new to this technology, i had to fiddle and discover how to make the proper gestures. Practicing on the gestures makes you appreciate how fast and efficient it can do multitasking.

As to its disadvantages, I still believe it is more suitable to a younger age group from 30's and below whom are more flexible to learn new techmology and has a natural desire for HI tech gadgets. Secondly, its body makes me somehow feel that the MBP seems rather frail looking and too sensitive, hence you may need to invest on a lot of protective housings like sleeves and hardcover and padded neoprene bags to keep in from harm and damage; Thirdly, its battery, though it is supposed to be long life, cannot be removed from the body, You cant buy an extra spare in case battery runs out of juice. Fourthly,if you have been used to Microsoft windows and Office, it is a bit difficult to maneuver the gestures esp dragging files and folders unless you have a lot of trial practice first. The good thing is you can have Micosoft Office for Mac installed in case you prefer to use that over the Mac Office version, though both can be used simultaneously. Lastly, you may find yourself investing solely on Apple for softwares and updates because you can only buy them though the Apple store. I would also strongly recommend that you get one of those Apple Care protection plan for IT support and insurance to cover repairs and replacements. I have only been using my MBP for a less than a week, and i have scheduled an appointment next week to seek technical assistance at the Genius Bar in an Apple retail store, to orient me on how to use and enjoy my MBP to the max!

It's still too early to tell if this beauty will deliver; but hopefully,if i learn more on how to use it, i will learn to appreciate it more.
