Canon 70-300 Telephoto Lens - A good lens at a reasonable cost

) As a Canon DSLR owner (5D), my lens ranged from 17 - 105 mm. focal length, I needed a lens for the occasional times I wated something longer , in this case, the 70 - 300 mm lens was ideal.
Although the lens is relatively slow, F4,l.5 - 5.6, the majority of my work is in daylight and using speeds of 200 ASA(equivalent)it is adequate.
This lens is lighter than either of my other Canon Zooms (17-40 L series and 24-105 L series, however does not (to me at any rate ) have the build quality of a Canon L series, but the cost, for those who are only using it intermittently is more than reasonable, as is the image quality.
The other advantage is that as well as being light, it is less conspicuous than the "white" L series lens of the same focal length.
Two disadvatages I have found are - (1) the lens rotates during focusing,which complicates the use of polarising and neutral density filters etc. and (2)it is not recommended to try and manually over-ride the Auto focus mode by manually focussing - the lens should therefore be set to manual focus.
Overall though this is a good lens at a more than reasonable price, and a vast improvement on earlier non L series models of a similar focal length.
(I may be proved wrong, but the photo shown here appears to be the 70-300 DO lens and not the model to which I refer.
To me lens are a personal choice dependent on very many variables thus I am reluctant to recommend any lens without knowing its main intended use.

) Great Lens would love a more expensive one f2 is usm ..but this is great very good lens for the money
