This lens is at the more expensive end of the scale for wide angle lenses for the APS-C class of cameras. I chose it over the Tokina 11-16mm because of the extended range and the Sigma 8-16mm purely because of quality issues I've had with Sigma lenses.
This lens feels sturdy but light compared to my 24-105mm or even the Tamron 17-50mm. In terms of use the only annoying feature is that the zoom ring is in front of focus ring - opposite to all my other lenses. The barrel does not rotate or extend which makes it ideal for polarisers & filters.
Shooting with a lens this wide can be a challenge. It makes you think more before snapping away. I personally love the type of distortion/exaggerated perspective you get when shooting closeup to people, vehicles etc. Image quality is good overall, though not as sharp as some might like. If using this lens with a flash you will find your on camera flash won't cut it as half the frame will not be illuminated. Anything from a 270 upwards will do the job nicely.
Overall, I think this a great lens for use in shooting architectural interiors, landscapes or sports.

Amazing and must-have lens for crop sensor canon users. Image quality and performance is amazing and equivalent of most L-lenses of equivalent wide-angle format.
I really did feel that the 10-22 fills the void for landscape and architectural photography for crop sensor users without spending thousands for a full frame camera. Despite most online reviews giving negative votes on price alone for a lens that becomes unusable if you decide to move up to full frame. the lens is definitely DEFINITELY worth the premium. It also tends to hold its value a lot better than most EF-S lenses so reselling the lens if I upgrade doesn't give me any concern.
Build quality is outstanding, feels really solid and weighty with the added luxury of not extending when zoomed in. Like all wide-angle lenses, a lens hood is necessary to not limit yourself in bright conditions where lens flare becomes common.
Im really excited to shoot with this on a European trip im taking this year, and if you're interested in this lens. just buy it, you wont be disappointed.

Great lens, super for the landscapes I do.
You could not get a better wide lens for the ef-s mount and this lens is as good as they get in my opinion

Very sharp lens and great for landscape photography. With the USM focus ring, you wouldn't have to deal with the pain of losing any great moment like when dealing with the cheapie kit lens 15-55mm.
