This kit is a great starter for anyone looking to start taking professional looking photos without needing to know anything about cameras.
The camera hardly has any weight to it which is great if you are lugging it around with you all day.
For the price you will not find another camera with the functionality and quality.
The lens give you a good range but I would suggest getting a straight 50mm len if you are going to be taking close ups and portraits.
Be aware that if you are purchasing this camera for the Full HD video function that you will need to purchase a good quality SD card ( Class 6 and up, but preferably Class 10). I found the SANDISK brand to be good quality and not overpriced.

Been searching to the 550D for a while and its a fantastic camera, a huge step up from my old canon S5IS, Being my first SLR its great.
Image quality is fantastic for what i need it for, only issue i have found is auto focus on macro sometime it will not focus for you a minner problem i think, I'm still learning so there maybe a trick to do it.
Battery lasts ages i have used it for 3 days and its only on half, using both lcd and eye view its lasted.
Everything else is great, its a great camera for what it does one thing i would of liked is GPS but its not a deal breaker.
One thing buying from these guys is not hard copy manual, not a problem for people who like a digital copy but i like the real deal. Canon kindly sent me one for free after i asked to order one, thanks Canon!

For the price it is an excellent product.
I purchased the 550D for an overseas trip and I got some great shots and now have good memories of our trip.
I would highly recommend this product.
The software that comes with the camera is simple and easy to use and so are the functions on the camera itself.
I had an Olympus prior to this purchase and I still don't know how to work it properly. It has very poor instructions.
The choice of lenses are great for general photography but I will be looking at a wide angle lense for the future.
The movie function is of good quality and easy to use as well.
Thanks Canon

I purchased the Canon 550D to complement the Canon 500d I purchased two years ago, when I have been out with the 500D in the Australian Bush, I found myself changing lenses to many times to get the photo's that I wanted. With two Canons it will be much easier having different lenes on each Camera, one for long distance photography, and one for shorter distances. All lens are interchangable with the same brand of camera. I will use the 500D for shorter distances and the 550D with a higher megapixel for longer distances and Macro photography.
The features of the 550D are slightly different to the 500D, when changing settings on the 500D, it can be done by pressing the "SET" button on the back of the camera to access the different function settings.
With the 550D settings are accessed by different buttons on the camera which is something I have to get used too, this will be a learning process over a period of time.
I like the Canon Cameras because Canon have the largest range of lenses and when searching for lenses so many brands of lenses are adaptable.

Althrough not a pro seriers Cam but produce good quality pic and video especially the 3200 iso giving you almost night view with minimal distorstion.
only one feature that unhappy about is the starting iso from 200 other wise good budget cam without expensive price tag.
See some of photos i taking from this camera.
