The Canon Powershot G12 is the ultimate compact camera for underwater photography. The quality of photo taken are the best in the compact range. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a professional looking photo without the professional price tag. My only concern is not with the camera,love G12, but the original canon housing, which is a little under engineered. My suggestion is to invest in an Ikelite housing which will get you to 60m instead of the 45m rating of the original Canon housing. If you are a diver who wants to take photos, this is THE camera you would get!

) This is by far the best camera I have ever used. I have friends who are professional photographers who own a host of SLRs, and they rate the G12 and use it for personal trips etc. Amazing image quality. Great features. And it's very forgiving for the rest of us who are amateur photographers at best.
It is easy to use - surprising for a camera that has so many features.
The user manual isn't great and there are some buttons which I still don't know what they do - but it's been more than impressed us.
If you're considering this camera - don't think, just buy!

You have to BUY :)

Two years ago i have bought G12 for my first camera to know my abilities about photographing. I used G12 for a good start for photographing and i realised that i like taking photos. I like to take photos of "micro world" and sports, mostly. So i decided to buy an SLR, Canon 600D, knowing what i like to picture.
So G12 is a good start to Photography, and a good second camera for semi-pro and pro photographers.
You will feel like amateur while you are taking pictures and feel like a pro while looking at the pictures you took with G12.
