I got this as a portrait / macro lens, in which it appears to be very good. The infinity setting needs to be backed off the tiniest fraction in order to maintain clear focus, slightly annoying but not a deal breaker.

Doesn't auto-focus on my body (Nikon D5100), but apparently does so on other full AF models. Once again, no big deal; I prefer to focus manually on macro shots anyway.

Fantastic lens.

Pros
- Great quality images crystal clear.
- awesome value for money.
- Good build quality.
- light.
- small and compact.
- external aperture control.

Cons
- No build in autofocus(although a pro if you want to use for macro)
- No zoom (not really a con as its a prime lens)

Really fast lens with manual aperture control that takes really great photos indoors using ambient light without the need for a flash. The lens itself looks well made and is very compact.

This Lens is cheap and spectacular. these two words are very rarely used in the same sentence.

The focus speed is very quick, and the images that come out are the sharpest from any lens I've used.

MAKE SURE that your camera has a drive motor if you want to use the auto-focus, you will be able to tell by removing your lens and checking for a "Flat head Screwdriver" type pin on the bottom left of your camera body.

Google Ken Rockwell Nikkor 50mm 1.8D for a far better review of this lens then I could achieve.

Top lens at a great price

Looking for a fixed lens to do some family portraits with. This thing is spot on and even better given it's price range. There's a couple of slightly better options out there but the big price difference vs the very small improvement is hard to justify unless you really need it for a specific job. As it's being used as a portrait lens it's mostly used on a tripod so the lack of vr doesn't feature into it for me.
