Hey if you want to lug around $3,000plus of camera gear, spend time changing lenses, miss photo opportunities, have effective wide angle to zoom 20mm to 200mm you should buy a full SLR,(probably a Nikon)If you want a point and shoot, pocket size with poor low light, and effective wide to zoom around 28mm to 140mm get a pocket camera from $70 to $ 500.
I paid $350 for my Nikon effective 24mm to 1000, yes 42x optical that is a 1 metre lens equivalent, it is not possible to pack all the quality of a high end SLR into a point and shoot camera, but this is so close that amateurs won't know the difference! my only complaint is the inability to attach filters or lens attachments I have purchased a kit to allow for this, Nikon doesn't make it and I would NOT recommend it. If there is anything Nikon could do to change the 52mm ridges for lens cover attachment to 52mm thread for filter attachment it would improve a great product

I took this camera overseas and took over 500 photos under all light and geographical conditions. The only problem I had was gaining focus in thick brush, another camera I own is better in respect that you can nominate a focus centre to align with your subject no matter what conditions and obtain a perfect photo. (Unless I have not yet located a similar function on the Nikon.) I also took a quantity of movie footage which I found to be of good quality, focusing was sometimes slow in this application. Battery runs out of power very fast if using the LCD screen a lot. Telephoto capability is just great.
Overall I loved the camera.

I bought this as my first proper digital camera to replace my manual camera and all its lenses.
So far i have not come to grips with finding all the functions and get quite agitated as it seems very complicated in comparison to the manual set up. I find the zooms are fantastic low light focusing is slower than a manual.
