Great in it's day, but now outdated and overpriced compared to the D7000.

Review For: Nikon D300 12.3 MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Body Only)
I own one of these and also a D7000. Before that, a D90.
Pics from the D90 and D300 were hard to tell apart until ISO's were up over 1000 then the D300 had a about a 1 stop advantage.
The D7000 eats both the D90 and D300 in every respect. Image quality... Hi ISO handling..... image quality..... colour..... image quality..... features..... image quality..... battery life etc.
And did I mention image quality?
I actually buy a camera based on this and not looks or badge, because when people/customers look at the photo, that's what they want to see, quality images.
They aren't interested in the weather seals, the full alloy chassis or what model body was used.
Shock horror, they just want top quality images.
If you look after your gear, the engineering is irrelevant and they can ALL take a good knock and some rain and not break.
If you want a second hand D300, pay an extra $100 and get a second hand D7000. If you feel you need a 'semi pro model' camera on a budget, then nothing will change your mind and you'll have to put up with the dated technology of the D300.
Having said that, if you can find one for less than $650 go for it. At that price it's fair value but at $850+ your being sucked in by the hype.

From macro to wide angle, the D300 has never let me down.

Review For: Nikon D300 12.3 MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Body Only)
The D300 is the best pound for pound camera on the market.
It is not FX but unless you want to print posters it certainly has the picture quality that will satisfy the fussiest photographer. It allows full control over all the settings and has so many features that you can't help but be impressed.
Ergonomically designed, it feels very natural in your hand.
