Samsung GALAXY Ace - Black Smartphone

I Bought this for the price, i thought it was reasonable as it runs android apps, if you want to use the gps features keep it plugged in as it will drain a full battery within minutes, definatelty not designed for it. Feels solid has a nice finish, but if you write a lot of texts and you have average fingers you wont be able to type in portrait mode as the keys are tiny and close together.

Though i have disabled most of the running apps the battery life is crap a couple of phone calls and its telling me to plug in the charger, so its not only with gps on it is also not the best with normal calls, ill admit though alot of this is to do with Telstra using up a lot of resources...
Telstra apps running in the background which are a pain to remove, i suggest before you put your old sim in it __BEFORE__ you copy your contacts over to the samsung,, , REMOVE all of telstra crap etc,, go in to the running services and uninstall everything related to telstra or you might find that you have way too many apps appearing without you requesting it and will most likely pass onto all your contacts as well in the form of tracking cookies and locations etc also change your home page to google as it uses less data which in turn gets more out of your already crappy battery,
Camera viewing slightly below average but has decent output,

I cant judge signal strength as some isp's are crap anyway, so it wouldnt be fair to comment on my woes there.

It has the normal amount of features most are used to


But

It wont come when called
It has a below dismal battery life,, i thought i read on the box that id had about 3 or 4 hrs talk time,,,...??? i dont think so and if your using the gps and its not plugged in you will get lost

Frustrating if your vision is below normal and dont have average to small fingers

I bought this phone for the price, it's size and feel in the hand its features and the appearence.

For a midrange Samsung Smart Phone it is within the price range of most buyers. It is reasonably fast for daily needs. The phone reception is quite clear and the display resolution quite reasonable. The screen is not super amolead but quite clear for someone to read and view graphics. I wish people do not get hooked to the rat race of looking for speed, viewing size and the weight of the phone. Frankly there is no end if we go for the next fast model. Phone companies go for the demand and if most people are satisfied with basic functions of a phone,the competition between companies will stop.

I have bought a similar phone from ebay advertised for parts and repaired it to work properly. I am using it for experimenting it with different ROMs. There are many things you can experiment such a rooting, installing firmware, custom ROMs, unlocking etc. In the process of experimenting, I have hard bricked the phone (none of the buttons work). I used a program called ROM Manager to backup the phone. That killed the phone. It is a good lesson for not using this program on Samsung Galaxy Ace.

My next project is to unbrick the phone using a Riffbox Jtag device. It will cost $150.00 but I do not mind as it gives me a thrill if I can revive the phone.

I can't compare this phone with other phones because I haven't used many although I could say simply that this phone is much better than most of the Chinese Phones that you see in the market. The capacitive touch screen function of this phone is much better. The Qualcom 72XX processor is much faster than MTK 6XXX processors.

If any one wish to forego the warranty, you can root this phone and get rid of some of the unwanted programes installed by the manufecturer. It will open up a world of experimentation ofcourse with some risks. Google and read before doing experiments with the phone.

People complain about the fast battery drain of this phone but it can be reducd by installing a program such as JuiceDefender Ultimate. Battery drain is governed by the way anyone uses his phone. If you use the internet too much or view videos or play too many games, the battery will drain fast. If you do such things buy a battery charger and a couple of spare batteries. They are not that expensive.

The memory (RAM) of this phone is not that much. But you can use an external SD card and move most of the programs to save RAM. I am using 16 GB SD Card. You can store your music and video files and programs not essential for the working of the phone on the SD Card.

The overall satisfaction with Samsung Galaxy Ace is great.

I got the phone for my job since we got work sim cards and business plans, but I wanted to keep using my personal number. So now I don't have to carry 2 phones on me. And being a tradesman the likelihood of the phone getting smashed is quite high so I'd rather smash a $150 phone than a $600/$700 one.

It's a good phone with a lot of features ,a nice sturdy build and feels good too handle. This phone is one of those things where you get exactly what you pay for. Nothing more, nothing less.

The dual sim feature works great and is very easy to use. But don't expect the processing power to match any of the Galaxy S range phones. It does feel a bit sluggish at times, but it eventually gets the job done. I would've liked to get a bit more out of the battery as well.

So all in all I am satisfied. It didn't exceed my expectations but it didn't really disappoint either for just $150.

My old Samsung finally died after years of use. We do not use our mobile all day long like others do so we wanted something simple and easy to use. This unit has provided this and much more.
The battery life does seem a little low but fine for our use, it's only a matter of plugging in a little more often, so no hastle.
For us gray oldies we found that some of the other phones were a bit over whelming. Learning to use this phone has been fun and simple. I know there is a lot more we can do with it and I intend to give it a go. So, depending on your needs you can use it or leave it as you choose.
If your life doesn't revolve around your mobile and you don't want to spend a fortune this one is for you.
