I started travelling about a year ago, before which I was using a Nikon D200. As the camera was becoming outdated and was also too big and heavy to really justify taking with me, I decided to sell it. Since then I have been researching compact DSLR type cameras and came to the conclusion that the NEX-7 was the model best suited to my needs.
I've been using it for a week now and I am very very pleased. Despite it's tiny size, it feels really nice to use. It has a very hands on interface, similar to my old Nikon, makng it very quick to change parameters and provide a very smooth and intuitive creative process. Navigation buttons and dials mean you don't have to plod through menus like other compact cameras I have used. It has the feeling of a professional SLR in a tiny and convenient package.
It's incredibly responsive, The picture quality is absolutely stunning and the high ISO combined with a very impressive image stabiliser mean that I can shoot in really low light without the hinderance of a tripod or external flash.
The only complaint that I can think of is that the pop out screen doesn't flip round to face the front.
All in all I'm really loving this camera and I'd highly reccommend it to anyone who is looking for a compact camera with all the features, quality and creative control of a large DSLR.
