2014 MacBook Pro Specs

The 2014 MacBook Pro laptops come in two varieties: the regular MacBook Pro and the MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Retina MacBook Pro). The regular MacBook Pro comes in one version, but the Retina MacBook Pro comes in five models—three with a 13-inch display and two models with a 15-inch display.

Buyers can choose from six 2014 MacBook Pro models, each with different specs and price points. All models are available on eBay.

Regular MacBook Pro vs. MacBook Pro with Retina Display

The main difference between the regular MacBook Pro versus the five retina display models is the clarity and resolution of the user interface. The retina 13-inch models have more than 4 million pixels, and the 15-inch models have more than 5 million pixels. This equates to crisper and cleaner pictures than the regular MacBook Pro.

About the Regular MacBook Pro

The regular MacBook Pro has a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display. It comes with a 2.5 gigahertz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (turbo boost up to 3.6 gigahertz). It has four gigabytes of memory and 500 gigabytes of hard drive. It measures 32.5 centimetres wide and weighs a tad more than 2 kilograms. It also has a FaceTime HD camera. The MacBook Pro has a battery life with up to seven hours of wireless web use.

About the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pros

Buyers looking for a smaller-display laptop have three 13-inch models. The high-level specs of each model are:

  • 2.6 GHz processor (turbo boost up to 3.3 GHz) with 128 GB of flash storage
  • 2.6 GHz processor (turbo boost up to 3.3 GHz) with 256 GB of flash storage
  • 2.8 GHz processor (turbo boost up to 3.5 GHz) with 512 GB of flash storage

All three models have eight GB of memory that can be configured to 16 GB. The main difference among the models is the amount of flash storage. Additional flash storage equates to a faster-loading hard drive. Documents, movies, and photos are saved to the flash drive, so buyers who need more memory for movies should consider the 512 GB model.

All three models have the same physical dimensions and are 31.4 centimetres wide. They weigh 1.57 kilograms, which is significantly less than the regular MacBook Pro which has the same display size. They also have a longer battery life with up to nine hours of wireless web use.

About the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pros

Buyers interested in a larger display have two models to choose from in the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro category. High-level specs are:

  • 2.2 GHz processor with 256 GB of flash storage (turbo boost up to 3.7 GHz)
  • 2.5 GHz processor with 512 GB of flash storage (turbo boost up to 4 GHz)

Both models boast 16 GB memory, which is double the size of the 13-inch Retina MacBook memory and four times as much as the regular MacBook’s memory. The 15-inch models also have the fastest processors available.

The 15-inch MacBooks are 35.89 centimetres wide and are the heaviest MacBook Pros with a weight of 2.02 kilograms. They get up to eight hours of wireless web use.
