Discover the 7 ingredients you need to make a super healthy low sugar green smoothie that helps you lose weight and increase your energy levels.

You’ll come across many different “green” smoothie recipes. Not all will be healthy for you. Some recipe writers are more then happy to add in 4 cups of fruit and ½ a cup of raw spinach and call their smoothie green.

Don’t get me mistaken. They are still eating healthy but I believe a green smoothie should be super healthy and energising.

That means a green smoothie needs to consist of the following ingredients. I have also included the reason why.

1. Fresh Raw Baby Spinach

Fresh baby spinach is the best leafy green to add and not because it’s such a nutritional powerhouse. Baby spinach has almost no “green” taste, which makes it easy to consume. By adding 2 cup of fresh baby spinach to your smoothie you’re getting 1.3g of fiber, 1.7g protein, 335g potassium, 28% of your vitamin C requirements, 6% of your calcium, 119% of vitamin A and 9% iron

2. Fresh Avocado

Adding half an avocado will make your green smoothie, smooth, creamy and thick. It hardly has flavour so if you’re not a fan, you probably won’t even tell it’s in there. Avocados are a super food and in my opinion should be consumed way more than it is.

Avocados contain truckloads of fibre, healthy monounsaturated fats, protein, potassium and vitamin K, B, B6, B5, C and E. It helps keep full for longer, promotes healthy skin, a flat belly and energy production.

3. Fresh Cucumber

Cucumbers are made of 95% water. So by adding 1 cup to your smoothie you’re making it super hydrating and refreshing. They are also full of minerals and contain a good source of B vitamins. They help fight breast, ovarian, uterine and prostate cancer. They also aid in weight loss and digestion and help the removal of toxins from your digestive system. They can cure diabetes, reduce high cholesterol and even control blood pressure.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are great to give your smoothie an additional antioxidant and fibre boost. Simple add 2 tablespoon to your smoothie and you already have the recommended daily requirements of fibre! They also contain essential omega 3’s, which your body cannot produce naturally on its own. As well as contain the minerals calcium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, Zinc, Vitamin B3, potassium, Vitamin B1 and B2. The antioxidants found in chia seeds also help rid the production of free radicals, which are responsible for making you age and get disease like cancer.

7. Stevia

refined sugar is incredibly harmful. This is why I choose to add a pinch of 90% stevia extract to sweeten my green smoothie. You can use any natural sweetener of your choice if you would rather. Stevia can lower blood pressure, blood sugar levels and help fight diabetes. I also think that taste is pretty awesome.

Lastly, all you need is to mix the ingredients in your high speed blender and add heaps of ice, if you’re anything like me and like it super cold and refreshing, maybe add an extra ½ cup of water to reach your desired consistency

That is how you make a super nourishing green smoothie that contains only 307 healthy, wholesome lean calories that keeps you full for longer. Ideal consumption is breakfast, morning tea or afternoon tea. This recipes in designed for one serve.
