A Buyer's Beginner Guide To Ebay

Like if this Guide is helpful

Hi Beginners.

Welcome to Ebay, the site where you can buy many cheap good-quality items, but you have to sign up first. It is very simple, just click on "Register" up the top of the page when you visit the home page of Ebay. Great! So, you are now ready to start shopping!

There are a number of different categories of items you can choose from when buying. Click on "Buy" at the top of your page. It will take you to a page with a drop-down menu allowing you to browse through different categories and a search bar. Choose the category of the item you would like to buy and put in some text on the search bar to narrow down your search a bit more.

Scroll down through the page(s) of your results. Some items will say "Buy It Now" next to them. This means that you will not have to go through the whole bidding process and you will just buy the item straight away, wheres bidding you'll keep being outbid. Once you've decided which item you would like to bid on, click on the item, but before you bid, I reccomend you check the feedback others have given the seller. Once you're at the page of the item, on the far right, it will say "Meet The Seller" and will have a link to the user's page. Once you get to the page, it will have the latest feedback the user has recieved and a percentage of positive feedback recieved. I recommend that if the user has more than 10% negitave feedback, you don't bid on their items, but if the user has at least 91% positive feedback, thats a different story. If you feel comfortable with buying items of the seller, you may move onto the next step.

Down the bottom of the item's page, there will be a table of "Payment methods". There are a number of different payments, and if you want to learn about them, go here: http://pages.ebay.com.au/education/learn-to-buy-payments.html

If at least one way of purchasing is listed that you are comfortable with, you can bid, but you should also check the condition of the item which will be listed up the top of the page.

Now, enter the amount that you wish to bid. If you are the first bidder and the starter price is low, I reccomend that you bid the normal price you would pay for the item, instead of trying to get the item really cheaply. That will give you a better chance of winning.

"My Ebay" will keep track of the items you have bidded on and will tell you if you've been out bidded. To view the items that you've bidded on, go to "My Ebay" drop-down menu and select "My account". Put your cursor over the link that says "Go to previous version of my ebay" and a dorp-down menu will open up. Click on "Bidding" and it will come up with a list of items that you are currently bidding on. The items that you are winning will appear in bold and green and the ones you've been outbid on will appear in red.

*Tip: If you've accidently bid on an item or enter the wrong ammount, you can always retract your bid, but there are conditions: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?RetractBidShow&guest=1

If you've been outbid......

Simply go to the page of the item and bid again. If the price has gone up too high, don't bother wasting your money, unless you still want to bid again on the item, in that case, bid again. I personally recommend you go up in $2 or $3. Don't go up in 5c because it irritates the other bidders and you won't go very far becuase the item cost won't have increased very much (obviously) so others will still bid!

If you've won.......

Congratulations! There are a few more steps until you can recieve your item. Contact the seller and tell them you've won (or they will contact you). The seller will give you the details of the address to send your payment to (or bank details, depending on what payment method you used) and they will user will give you a number of days to pay for the item before they delete your bid or relist the item. If you've used Paypal, it offers protection for the buyer and your personal details will not be shared with the seller, but if you've used any other payment method, it dosen't offer buyer protection, so you ,personally, will have to exchange the shipping details to the other user. Once you've payed the user for the item, the user will post the item to you through post. It will arrive in a few days and you've got your item! Don't forget to give feedback to the user after you've paid!

Now, you've had your first buying experience on ebay. I hope this guide helped you with buying items on ebay. Happy buying!
