#2 Chanel No. 5

In 1921, Mademoiselle Chanel set out to create a scent for the modern woman, for whom she designed clothing. Coco Chanel enlisted the help of Ernest Beaux, a perfumer who worked for the Russian royal family.  After several months, Beaux presented Chanel with an array of samples, and she picked one, corresponding to her lucky number;  No. 5.  At the time of its release, Chanel No.5 was the most expensive perfume on the market, each batch containing thousands of incredibly expensive rose petals to create an exquisite floral scent with deep undertones. After 93 years, a bottle of the world's most famous perfume is sold somewhere in the world every 30 seconds.
