'Beijing' by David Eimer, published by Lonely Planet I found to be very good. It is only a physically small book 16cm (H) x 11cm (W) but contains lots of useful information. The well set-out information comes under subject headings such as Highlights, Itineraries, Accomodation, Food, Shoping, Parks, Districts to name only some. There is also a basic Language section. Included is a good-sized Map, which shows all the train Metro stations and most usefully in addition to English, there are Chinese characters included for all major streets, tourist sights etc. The format within the subject headings is consistant and easy to follow. There are also additional maps of many tourist sites. As the book is physically small it will be easy to handle whilst on-the-move in Beijing. I recommend this book.
