When buying second hand cymbals, make sure to check that there are no cracks around the cymbal itself, although small cracks can be ground or cut out with little or no change to the feel and sound of the cymbal, cracks that have developed from the centre hole will severely limit the future playability of the cymbal. "Keyholing" which occurs where the cymbal stand thread rubs on the cymbal causing the wearing away around the centre hole of the cymbal. Although this may not effect the overall sound of the cymbal, it can effect the feel by causing the cymbal to sit looser on the stand.
