Caffeine for Pre Workout Energy and Fat Weight Loss

Many gym going individuals turn to various pre-work out supplements to give them that extra boost while working out. A pre-workout supplements main purpose is to provide you with a quick boost of energy to get the most out of your workout. This boost is achieved through a number of different additions to the pre-workout mix.

One such way is through the addition of caffeine. Caffeine is an excellent pre-workout additive as it is reliable, safe, and is eliminated from the body fairly quickly; it has a half-life of about 6 hours. 

Caffeine is an alkaloid compound which acts as a stimulant of the central nervous system and of certain metabolic pathways.  Caffeine’s stimulatory effects come from its ability to inhibit adenosine, an inhibitory neurotransmitter that is partially responsible for feelings of drowsiness. Caffeine blocks the action of adenosine which results in feelings of alertness and increased focus.

A recent study published in the scientific journal PLoS One, which examined the effects of caffeine on the body’s energy systems found that the performance of individuals who were required to bike for 4km, improved significantly after caffeine had been ingested. One reason for this improvement is that caffeine allowed these individuals to rely on pools of anaerobic energy, which may not be available under normal, non-caffeinated conditions.

These are the reasons supplement manufacturers insist on incorporating caffeine into many pre-workout formulas.
