Clie NX80V PDA First Look Review

The Sony Clie NX80V is an excellent machine despite it's age, with some features equalling that of present Palm OS PDAs. The core specs are quite modest, with 16MB of RAM and a 200MHz Intel XScale processor. However, it sports a 1.3 megapixel camera, with the ability to record videos with sound, and voice recordings. Sadly, I have an NX80 with a nonworking camera (these devices are no longer made by Sony, the NX73 and NX80 were the last Clies) so I cannot review this. One of the downsides is the Sony software - Sonicstage is horrible, and the 'Not Invented Here Syndrome' shown by the Memory Stick and others. So, here's the summary:

  • 1.3MP Camera
  • MP3 Player w/Headphones
  • Sony Memory Stick AND CompactFlash
  • Swivel Design
  • Full Illuminated Keyboard
  • Voice Record
  • PDF Reader included
  • Decuma input as well as Graffiti - write a whole word at once!

  • NIHS
  • Illuminated KB doesnt show symbols in dark
  • No 5-way Directional Pad
