Before Willis Haviland Carrier invented the air conditioner, people slept outside on sleeping porches during the hot summer nights. Even though now one does not have to sleep outside to stay cool, it does not mean one can not have an outdoor sleeping room to relax, read, reflect and yes even sleep! Here is how to create an outdoor sleeping room.
1. Sunroom Location
First, find a place in your backyard such as a sunroom, covered porch, deck, gazebo or pergola that would be an ideal place that is already covered. If you do not have a covered area don't fret. It is still possible if you have plenty of trees that give shade or a patio that you could put up a canopy awning for shade.
2. Hammock Comfort
Next, decide on what you want to lay on while relaxing in your outdoor sleeping room. Hammocks, couches and beds are comfortable and ideal.
3. Decorate the Resting Place
If you have chosen a bed, you can use a platform that would fit a twin size mattress. Cover the mattress with a water/weather resistant cover to protect the mattress from the weather changes. Use outdoor pillows, blankets and coverlets with beautiful inviting colors. If you are using a hammock, make sure to have a comfy outdoor pillow and a light blanket just in case it gets cool. You can also put mosquito netting around the bed to protect from annoying bugs.
4. More Decorating
Next, add an outdoor weather resistant rug as well as an end table for drinks and books. Place plants in containers around the area to give your outdoor sleeping room a garden feel. Use scented candles to add peacefulness along with chirping birds you will hear.
