Be careful of some of the cheap, two dollar store type, leads being offered on Ebay. I purchased one a few weeks ago and it failed. The first time I used it, the retractor failed. O.K., I thought, what do you expect from a lead that you paid less than 10 dollars for right? But then, on the third use, the connecting clasp actually gave way( the loop actually bent outward)! I was using the lead with a 8Kg miniature Schnazer and the metal(supposedly) loop gave way at the collar allowing him to get loose. Luckily, my dog is pretty well trained, and we were in a park at the time, but if we had been on the street he could have gotten run over. I feel really dumb for risking his life, and my family's pet, to save a few bucks on a questionable lead. I was also stupid to leave positive feedback for the vendor before I actually tried the lead.
Please don't be as stupid as I was and risk your pet's life on one of these no-name leads. If you can't afford the price of a retratable lead, buy a nice and safe standard type lead. Personally I am going to go buy a lead made by reputable manufacturer, so I don't have to worry
