squid jigs Egi fishing Selecting a good Coulor For Squid

Squid Jigs And All the Hype ? Choosing the right Jig
I can’t tell you which jig to select but I can share some  information on how I select my jigs  so I am going to keep this as basic as possible without getting too technical. I won’t be explaining the techniques on how to use the s quid jig (techniques, jigging, twitching, whatever you want to call it), but I will focus on where and how to find  a squid  so it will help you selected your jig in your area. You can simply Google the techniques eg: "how to work a squid jig  " and watch it  on YouTube.

Squid Jigs & egi jig fishing selcting the correct lure .

where to look for squid when fishing ?

Squid predominately hunt with their eyes , so when you fish for squid its best to find clean clear water in your region, combined with a reef bottom or broken ground. Depending on the tide and time  of day depends on what type of lure you need to use. On a brighter day with clear water you should choose a lure with natural colours. Brown and Orange squid jigs are my preference in this situation. On a dark and cloudy day or if the water is murky I tend to use a lure with brighter/fluro colours such as yellow/green/pink. sounds easy right ? thats because it is .

I personally don’t get to technical. Squid feed near the bottom so you just need to get your jig as close to the bottom as you can. I think about how deep the water is where  I’m are going to be   fishing. There are no rules to selecting the right jig size.  I have caught many big squid on small jigs and vice/versa. Personally I prefer bigger jigs around 3.0 or 3.5 jig size and I believe that its in the technique of the fisherman to get the jig to dart around  close to the bottom and to be in the right spots, in the right times .

An Egi jig is just the Japanese name for a squid jig they are the same jig . Expensive squid jigs made by Yo-zuri, Yamashita and Shimano Sephia work a treat, but I am yet to see a cheaper jig fail and for this reason I will predominately use cheaper no name jigs. There are plenty on ebay and good quality ones too!. My only tip is steer clear of the plastic ones without cloth. And if you want to purchase expensive jigs, buy Shimano. But it really comes down to the your tastes and preference.

fishing port phillip bay . Fantastic New Way To Catch A Snapper

fishing for snapper fishing port phillip   bay most people use a twin rig  ( snelled  Rigs )as its  a great way and good   type of rig to use , but over the last season i have been testing a technique , i call pop & drop where i fish a paternoster rig or flasher rig with a heavy sinker and you cant use the traditional  rig becasue its free fall is to slow . The  way in which i use this flasher rig  is   driftting  where i dont anchor  and i will use my sounder to find the fish and then reverse  back up over the fish and drop the rig down on top of them alot like lure fishing but the difference is i can have my rig down on the bottom  where the fish  are   in 3 to 4 seconds as there is no resistance in the free fall unlike a lure or plastic and and you dont need to or have time to put the action into a Lure which make take 30 to 40 seconds to get down in 20 meters of water and unless your fishing a reef where the fish will sit off you just dont have time to catch a grazing snapper  swimming past on your sounder ...
lets thing about this for a minute , When your sounding a fish on your sounder if you think about when you see the fish on the sounder  its more then likely there swimming  & moving under your boat  as there is very little strutcher  or reef for the fish to sit on in the bay.
The fish could be swimming  in any direction and you really dont know which way its going .. and if we are to being honset within the fishing world there is no real way a sounder can tell you this infomation and it comes down to guess work .
so this where you need to be on the bottom within  a few seconds to give your self a good chance to catch any fish you may see on your sounder,   when you perfect it . Its a truely magic feeling as you can be hooked up within seconds  of  seeing the fish on your sounder  , Not to many people fish this way but its the one of  most excitting way to catch a snapper ,  I first started fishing this way because of being lazy and not wanting to pull my anchor becuase i have no winch , i quickly learnt to perfect this in november last year  and have been practing this in winter on pinkies . why have a crack at it this season  ...
