First purchase: what happens next

Like if this Guide is helpful

Congratulations on making your first purchase on eBay!

First thing’s first: give yourself a pat on the back. It’s less scary than it sounds!   Now you have opened up a world of bargains and shopping

So What Happens Next ...

Once you have successfully won your item, whether via an auction or via “buy in now”,  you will receive and invoice from the seller.   The seller will have provided several ways of paying for the item; pick the one that best suits you.  Paypal is often recommended as it provides some guarantees against fraud and risks in the unlikely event you have an issue with the transaction.

Sellers send items once payment is cleared.  Note, if you send an e-cheque via paypal it can take up to 10 days to clear for the seller.

Professional sellers will provide tracking numbers and update you on the progress of your parcel being sent.

Once your item has arrived in the mail, the next step is to leave feedback for the seller. You probably based a large part of your decision to bid on an item off feedback written by buyers that came before you, so you understand the importance of leaving feedback in order to keep the eBay community alive. If no feedback was left, buyers wouldn’t know who they could trust and who they couldn’t (nor would sellers know which buyers to trust, for that matter!).

Once you make your purchase, you’ll receive an e-mail from eBay inviting you to provide feedback on your experience with your particular seller. If this e-mail has gotten lost in your inbox, however, just hover over “My Ebay” and then select “Purchase History.” After you’ve left your feedback, you may choose to save the seller as one of your favorites so that you can periodically check back to see what he or she has up for auction or sale. Once you’ve had a positive bidding experience with a seller, you are encouraged to shop from their store again.

Ebay is far from the auction house for used goods it was once perceived to be… There are very few items not on eBay these days…. Enjoy shopping for the bargains… check out our other guides for new ebayers to maximize your shopping experience.

Happy Shopping!
