In the early seventies Mel Brooks made a string of brilliant comedies. The following three are my all time favourites:
1. The Producers
If you haven't seen the original - then what are you waiting for. Here's where it all began - Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel and the genius of Mel Brooks.
2. Young Frankenstein
This is Mel Brooks' masterpiece. Gene Wilder leads a stellar cast - Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldmen, Terri Garr, Peter Boyle in this side splitting, laugh a minute spoof on the horror genre.
3. Blazing Saddles
At times this movie is childish and disgusting - I guess that is why I love it so much. Gene Wilder puts on another stirling performance once again. Cleavon Little is also great (whatever happened to him). This movie tells the story of America's west, while spoofing it to extremes you didn't think were possible.
