This is a letter I wrote when asked for help in starting a store, I had only 1000 letters room to reply:

Hi Caz, sell what you know about, if it's clothes, sell clothes, if it's antiques, sell those, sell what you love, it can get boring if you don't love what you sell! Read the eBay guides, they will help you set up, ask your friends if they have anything they don't want, sell those too! Go to the post office grab a postage guide book, buy all your stationary from somewhere like Office Works where it's cheaper, play by the rules, know the rules - be polite, be patient, answer emails promptly, don't neglect your life - if you work from home have a shut down time, don't go back in that room once your day is over, eBay can eat your life! Be honest in your descriptions, keep up to date with prices and trends, research your tax obligations, put in free gifts for customers that spend with you all the time, be available to answer questions on every day of the week, get a eBay only bank account, start your 10 day auctions on a Wednesday night around 7pm for the best end prices :) have fun!
