Sometimes you can put your makeup on and it will look fantastic, other times you can put it on and it just really won't suit.  The reason for this is that we all have different eye shapes and it's important to choose the right look for your eye.  We are all individuals so it's only natural that we should all have different looks.  So the first thing you need to do is check which eye shape you are;

CLOSE SET EYES   - Do you have them?  A good way to tell is to measure the length of your eye and the length of that eye should be the same length of the distance between your eyes, if it is a smaller distance then you have close set eyes.

MAKEUP TECHNIQUE - Apply a light shade of eyeshadow towards the inner part of the eye and a darker colour towards the outer, blending up and outwards.  When putting on eyeliner make sure to extend it a little on the outer eye and not go all the way in to the inner eye.  When applying mascara stick to the top lashes more and apply only to the outer few on the bottom. It's a good idea to apply a dot of highlighter or white eyeshadow to the inner corners of the eyes.

WIDE SET EYES - Do you have them? Obviously it is opposite to the close set eyes - measure the length of your eye and the length of that eye should be the same length of the distance between your eyes, if it is a larger distance then you have wide set eyes.

MAKEUP TECHNIQUE - Apply a light shade of eyeshadow towards the outer part of the eye and a darker colour towards the inner, but blend back towards the middle of the eye.  When putting on eyeliner make sure to line the inner eye all the way around.  When putting on mascara, concentrate on the centre of your eyelashes.

DEEP SET EYES - Do you have them? As the name suggests, the eye is further back into the socket.

MAKEUP TECHNIQUE - Apply a light shade of eyeshadow from lash to brow.  Then apply a medium shade above the crease in your eye and blend upwards.  When applying eyeliner make sure the line is thin and close to your lashes - apply to top and bottom.  Apply mascara to top and bottom lashes and be sure to comb them through with a metal comb to have neat lashes.  The idea is to bring your lids out.

ALMOND EYES - Do you have them? These are considered the 'perfect' eyes - they are of almond shape, the right distance apart and no drooping of the lids.

MAKEUP TECNIQUE - You can do any style of makeup with these eyes but the preferred style is; Apply a light shade of eyeshadow from lash to brow.  Apply a medium shade on the lid.  Apply a darker shade on the outer corner blending up and out.  Line top and bottom of the eyes with eyeliner and do the same with mascara.

DOWNTURNED EYES - Do you have them? As the name suggest - the outer corners of the eye will be turned down.

MAKEUP TECHNIQUE - Apply a medium shade over the entire lid.  Apply a darker contour shade in the crease of your eye starting 3/4 of the way in and working up and out - blend well. Apply a highlighter just under the arch of your eyebrow. Curling your eyelashes is a good way of lifting the eye and only apply mascara to the outer upper lashes.

There will, of course, be other shaped eyes out there and there may be mixtures between two lots of eye shapes - if you can't tell what your eye shapes are - the best thing to do is experiment with different contour areas and lining different parts of the eye or highlighting different parts of the eye.  Once you find the perfect look for you, you'll know and you'll never go back.  I hope this guide helps.  If you would like some gorgeous colours to practice with then visit my store
