Making jewellery can be a relaxing and rewarding experience. There are many different methods for making a necklace, depending on the chosen style. This guide will show you how to make a simple and elegant gold bead necklace, which can be worn in many different ways.
Gather All Necessary Items
Begin by assembling 6 different colours of DMC5 embroidery thread. This necklace can also be made with only one colour of thread if preferred. One darning needle and a small bundle of jump rings are needed, as well as an assortment of thick, gold beads. Select gold beads with different types of textures and patterns on them to make the necklace more visually appealing.
Measure the Thread
Begin by measuring out one strand of embroidery thread at 396 cm in length. Repeat the same process for the other 5 colours. Next, cut each one of these strands in half. There should now be 12 strands of thread, measuring 198 cm each. These threads should be placed on top of one another and lined out neatly. This will allow the end of the strands to be passed through the darning needle with greater ease.
Tie the Knots
Take the end of the thread bundle and put it through the darning needle. The thread should now be pulled through so that the darning needle is located in the midpoint of it. Next, tie a simple knot about 15 cm from the end. Now, tie another knot on top of the first one. This can be done by bringing the first knot into the middle of the second knot and pulling tightly.
Add the Gold
Select a mixture of 5 gold beads and 5 jump rings to add to the necklace, or as many as desired. String this mixture onto the end of the embroidery thread. The beads should then be brought to the location where the knot was made.
About 7.5 cm from the stack of rings, tie another double knot. Doing this provides a section for the rings to move freely. Next, string another assortment of beads and rings. Each time a new section is completed, change up the number of rings and beads that are used. Arrange them in a random fashion. For example, one section could only include jump rings, and in another there could be only two gold beads.
Adjust the Length
To complete the top of the necklace, tie a square knot on the end, but not too tightly. This will allow the length of the necklace to be adjusted simply by opening the knot and retying it as desired. Now, tie the same knot with the right end around to the left end. Trim the ends on each knot. The necklace can now be made longer by moving the knots further away from each other. To make the necklace shorter, move the knots closer together. This necklace can also be worn as a bracelet by pulling the knots apart and wrapping it around the wrist multiple times.
Making a necklace saves money and allows for a customised look. As a bonus, this gold ring necklace only takes about 30 minutes to make. For an easy way to purchase supplies for making necklaces, visit a local craft store, or look for materials online.
