Winning an item can be the most exciting experience here on eBay, especially if it's something that you really want or something that is not available via normal retail links.
My advice for the novice eBay user is to use the new bid assistant, but the best way is to be around at the end of the auction if you really want the item.
I use Firefox and open 2 tabs...The first window with the item, so that you can use the convenient "Refresh" button and the second window with a max bid that I'm willing to pay up to already filled out and entered. Press the bid button so that it takes you to the next screen. That was if i press the refresh button with 10 seconds to go and find out that I'm no longer the high bidder, I just switch tabs and press the bid button and 9 times out of 10 i will win the item. With the second window open and all filled out you can wait until 5 seconds before an auction close to submit your bid to either outbid someone or buy the item. Check your heart rate using this method, because it will be thumping along. GOOD LUCK
