Maintaining Outdoor Cushion Covers

Like if this Guide is helpful

A good quality outdoor cushion cover has a waterproof, weather treated coating to make them suitable for outdoor use. This means water will bead and roll off the surface without being absorbed in to the fabric and then to the insert. So, you will never have to deal with soaked cushion inserts and dirt being absorbed inside. I have put together a general guide to help you maintain and clean outdoor cushion covers. Please note that this guide assumes that your outdoor cushion covers have a waterproof weather treated coating.

To retain the maximum life span of outdoor cushion covers,
  • When not in use, don’t leave the outdoor cushions open to changing weather.
  • Leave outdoor cushions inside an outdoor chest/bin or under cover when not in use.
  • Use a moist sponge to wipe clean any stains/spills immediately and pat dry with a cloth.
  • Use a soft brush to wipe off any mud/dirt regularly. While a good quality outdoor cushion cover's weather resistant waterproof coating doesn’t promote mould and mildew, left over dirt can help mould and mildew appear over time.
  • Clean off any mould/mildew as soon as they appear to avoid them taking hold.
  • For rough stains or mould/mildew use mild dishwashing liquid/detergent mixed with white vinegar and use a fine bristle brush to spot clean. Remove any cleaning solution with water. Hang dry or dry thoroughly with a cloth.
  • If your outdoor cushion covers are machine washable, use a cold cycle with mild detergent and some vinegar. You can use the same solution to hand wash them. Ensure any cleaning solution is completely washed off with water. Hang to dry till the covers and completely dry.
  • Do not tumble dry. This will destroy the waterproof coating. Only cold iron if necessary. Direct heat destroys the waterproof coating of outdoor cushion covers.
I hope this will help you to use your outdoor cushion covers for a long time and keep them clean and beautiful.
