Introduction to the Michel Perchin Russian Eagle Pen Collection:

This guide provides details about the Michel Perchin Russian Eagle Fountain Pen Collection; beautifully hand crafted, sterling silver and enamel fine writing instruments introduced by this world class manufacturer in December 2006.  As with our other “guides” about Michel Perchin pens, we will define the edition size, detail the color palette, and highlight the important features of these unique, limited edition, luxury fountain pens, for the benefit of new and experienced collectors alike.

Design Elements:

Like many early edition fountain pens produced by Michel Perchin, Inc., the meticulously crafted and exquisite design of the Russian Eagle Pens were inspired by and actual Fabergé Egg, this time, the Fabergé Imperial Coronation Egg of 1897.  (The Coronation Egg was presented by Czar Nicholas II to his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna.)  The pen incorporates dazzling starburst patterns with trellises, and is enhanced with the bold black enameled Imperial Eagle.  And looking closely at the Imperial Eagle design, one can see a figure of a horse and rider inside the eagle.  The pen is a two piece design with a screw on cap which features a clip.

Edition Size:

The Michel Perchin Russian Eagle Pens were produced in very limited edition quantities of only 88 pens per color, in four colors.  The color palette includes a Coronation Yellow with a black Imperial Eagle and Rhodium plating; Periwinkle Blue with a black Imperial Eagle and Rhodium plating; Royal Blue with a black Imperial Eagle and 22kt Gold plating; and Ruby Red with a black Imperial Eagle and 22kt Gold plating.  Thus, total aggregate production of the Russian Eagle pen is only 352 pieces inclusive of Fountain Pens and Rollerball Pens.

First distributed to the marketplace in December 2006, the Michel Perchin Russian Eagle Pens should be available at authorized Michel Perchin retail dealers including White Mountain Trading Company on eBay.  The original manufacturer’s suggested retail price for these items was $3,800 apiece for the fountain pen version and $3,700 apiece for the Rollerball version.  Some complete matched serial number sets, (a rare occurrence due to production scheduling. Material handling and color variation), were made available to the retail dealer network and may still be available.   Due to the unusual nature of a matched serial number set, all four pens with the same serial number may command a premium price in the collector’s market.

Precious Materials:

The Russian Eagle Fountain pens are precision crafted from a solid .925 English hallmarked, Sterling silver rod, and engraved to the highest world-class goldsmith standards.  Multiple layers of translucent hard enamel are hard fired to the guilloched (engraved) pattern adding depth and beauty to the starburst design.

Serialized Edition:

The serial number for each pen is engraved on the cap ring after the words Michel Perchin.  The numerator, or top number of the serial number, indicates the pen’s position in the production sequence.  The denominator, or bottom number, indicates the MAXIMUM number of pens to be produced in the series.  As mentioned before, the very limited edition size of the Michel Perchin Russian Eagle Pen Collection is 88 total pieces in each of four colors.  (See our other guide regarding serial numbers.)

Each fountain pen is fitted with a Michel Perchin brand, medium size fountain nibs but can be converted to Fine or Broad sizes as well.  The 18 carat yellow gold nibs with the Michel Perchin elephant logo are fabricated in Germany and feature ebonite feeders.  The pens use a converter cartridge but a simple ink cartridge refill can be used and, brand new, the pens came with 6 ink refills.  Each pen is seated in a Swiss made maple display box, packed inside a smart-looking faux leather dust cover box adorned with the Michel Perchin logo.  Further, each pen package, again, when new, contained a Michel Perchin Certificate of Authenticity, that should be completed with purchase date and location of the authorized reseller, care instructions and one cleaning cloth.
