Here are some of the problems and or failures I have had so far with cheap pocketbikes purchased on Ebay...

 REAR SPROCKET OFF-CENTRED CAUSING THE BIKE TO SHUDDER  ABOVE 30KMH THUS, ALSO CAUSING THE CHAIN TO COME OFF AND WHIPPING MY SON'S LEFT LOWER LEG. ALSO, THE R1 EXTREME VERSIONS ARE DANGEROUSLY LIGHT IN THE FRONTEND WHICH IS PRONE TO LIFTING,  DEATH WOBBLES, AND MORE THAN LIKELY BUILT BY CHILD LABOUR...

    TOO MUCH PLAY INTHE THROTTLE.

IGNITION FAILURE, CAUSING IT TO CRACKLE AND POP, AND ENGINE "CUTOUT" (better versions readily available)

UNSAFE FRAME, IE-POOR QUALITY WELDS...

LEAKING CARBS (replacement carbs readily available)

SEVERE VIBRATION CAUSING FAIRING CRACKS

PLASTIC STARTER PAWLS MAY BREAK.(alloy versions readily available)

CLUTCHES AND OR CLUTCH SPRINGS GIVE WAY PRETTY EASILY (stronger versions readily available)..................

AS CHINESE STEEL IS INFERIOR TO, SAY, AUSSIE HIGHSTRENGTH INDUSTRIAL STEEL, OTHER FAILURES COULD ALSO INCLUDE WHEELBEARING FAILURE, BOLT FAILURE IN FORKS ETC SO A HIGH TENSILE BOLT KIT IS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL CHEAP CHINESE BIKES.(all parts are readily available on Ebay and cheap)

SUMMARY;

Cheap bikes are also great fun, but when contemplating purchase, realise that they won't last long before you need to buy spares and tools such as a clutch removal tool to fix problems such as the ones I have mentioned above.You'll also need some mechanical aptitude...Parts are readily available on the cheap but if you purchase a decent bike (eg BANSHEE S.H.O or a bike built by POCKETRACER.COM.in queensland) for $700+ you wont have to touch a thing for a good while and are ready to hit the track straight out of the box...A cheap bike will be lucky to last one race weekend and won't get you anywhere near the front pack... The ultimate bike would be something like a Blata or Polini which are Italian, made with all the best parts but cost thousands and are only for the serious pocket racer, pumping upto and over 15horsie's, they will wheelstand at 1/3 throttle and can be somewhat un-nerving to the uninitiated or inexperienced. They are something to behold and are genuine racing machines...

I HOPE THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU TO MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE WHEN PURCHASING A POCKETBIKE

Finally; These little bikes are a WHOLE LOTTA FUN to ride for young and old alike and please make sure that adequate protection is worn when riding...I speak from experience...Have a good ride.........Howlindoggy....
