First thing first, you need to remove the screws from the back of the controller - 5 or 6 screws most of the time plus the 2 scres in the section where the vibration section is located, then turn the controller back over and remove the front cover, the replacement thumbstick has a cable connector which can be easily disconnected from the main board of the controller and then remove the used/worn thumbstick and replace with the new thumbstick, then just reconnect the cable to the main board from the new thumbstick and put the cover back on and replace the screws in the back of the controller and there you have it,  easily replaced. it only takes approx 5mins of your time and well worth the money spent
