- REGION 1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories

- REGION 3: Southeast Asia & East Asia (Incl Hong Kong)
- REGION 4: AUSTRALIA, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America & The Caribbean

- REGION 0: Will Play On All DVD Players World Wide, Also Know As [ Region Free - All Region]
Simply, DVDs released in each Region will only play on DVD players sold in that particular Region. Eg. a DVD released in Europe *Region 2* Will NOT play on a DVD player in Australia *Region 4*. You can find out what Region a DVD is Encoded too, by looking on the back of the DVD case for a Globe with lines with a number on it. The number correlates to the Region list above. If a DVD is Listed as *Region 0 - Region Free - All Region* it means that it is not Encoded for any Region & should be Free to Play on ALL DVD Players.
Nowadays though, Most DVD Players come Multi-Region, So They will be able to Play All Region Coded DVDs, Double Check at the place your purchased it from.
Also most DVD Players can be Converted to Play All Region DVDs.
I Purchased an LG DVD-VCR Combo, I tried a Region 1 DVD (U.S., Canada) on it, It Did not play it, So I looked on the Internet and found a Website which had a very, VERY simple way to Convert it to Region Free, it was just a matter of clicking a few buttons on the remote control and it was Done!!!
When you buy DVDs on eBay, many of them are Region 1 or other Regions, so you need to make sure your DVD player does and can be converted before you buy the DVD.
The Reason many DVDs on eBay are different Regions than Australia, is because the DVDs are slightly cheaper overseas, Also many titles are Not yet released in Australia even though they have been released in other Countries.
Due to eBay policies for Writing Guides, I cannot put a Link to these Region-Free Converting Websites, but just go to search Engines such Google, yahoo... & Type Multi-Region Codes and go through the list and choose your DVD player's make and model #. (Do Beware of virus infected websites of course; If a website starts opening too many pop-ups, just cancel it and move on to the next on the list).
I think some Sellers on eBay currently sell this service, where you give them the make & model # of your DVD Player and they will look it up for you for a small fee :)
