I have had a PS3 for just over a year now. It is the 60GB model. Everything was working fine one night when I shut the system down. The next day I started it up and after the sony computer entertainment screen comes up it changes to the hard disk is corrupt and will be restored screen. I hit ok , it goes to the restore and restarts and goes to the corrupt screen again.
This sounds to me like a malfunction, the best course of action would probably be to contact your local Sony-officials and explain the problem to them. The warranty is only a year if I'm right, but with a bit of luck they'll fix it for free. If not, they'll probably be able to fix it for a small fee. However, DON'T go fiddling with your console yourself, otherwise they'll blame the problem on your tinkering with the internals, even though this problem isn't easily caused by something like that.
Just keep your fingers crossed and hope they're in a good mood when you contact Sony
