R4 = Region 4 DVD = Disc is encoded for Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
All DVD player in Australia and NZ should be able to play R4 DVD.
And if you are lucky enough to own a Multi-region DVD player you can play this DVD R4
and DVD from other countries.
What is region coding?
DVDs are coded with different regions according to which part of the world they have been purchased from.
Here are the list of DVD region codes:
Region 1 - U.S.A, Canada, U.S. Territories
Region 2 - Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
Region 3 - Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
Region 4 - Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
Region 5 - Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
Region 6 - Peoples Republic of China
Region 7 - Reserved
Region 8 - Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)
Region 9 - Mostly Fake DVD ??
The safest bet is to own a Multi region DVD player - Solve all the problem !
