Sorel Kamik Baffin Winter Snow Apres Ski Boots Sizing
Winter boots run a little large to accomodate thick socks. Most manufacturers only produce them in whole sizes. My recommendation is to round up to the next higher size.
The three main styles
A typical Sorel style (Caribou, Manatou) has a leather upper with a rubber bottom and wool felt liner. They have different temperature ratings. Kamik makes almost identical boots. One should snowseal the seam between the rubber and leather. You can research the ratings on the manufacturer's website.
The same goes for nylon snow boots. Baffin, Sorel & Kamik make these as well. They usually have waterproof nylon uppers, with a rubber bottom, and either a synthetic or wool lining. These are typically easier to get on/off than the Caribou style boot. Many have hook & loop closures some made by velcro. Great for kids and adults. The price is usually less than the Caribou style.
An Apres Ski boot is a dressier boot for wear in the ski lodge or around the ski resort at night. Usually much shorter. Bogner makes black suede ankle height boots. Tecnica makes fancy fur-trimmed ones and of course Moon Boots. There are also plenty of vintage 1960's boots for sale on eBay.
