Care for Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver, is one of the most beautiful and lustrous of all metals. With proper care, your silver will retain its beauty and character for many generations to come.

THE FIRST RULE OF SILVER CARE
Sterling Silver tarnishes, especially when exposed to salt air and products containing sulphur, such as some papers. So your item is wrapped in acid-free paper. However, silver that is regularly used typically needs less care, so we strongly encourage you to wear your silver every day.

WASHING SILVER
We recommend washing silver by hand in warm water with mild detergent. Because many food acids can have a corrosive effect, we suggest that you wash your silver immediately after use e.g. after peeling an orange or lemon. To avoid spotting, it is important to dry your silver immediately after washing.

POLISHING SILVER
Use quality brands. Some cheap "dip" polishes contain harsh chemicals and should be avoided. Electrolytic cleaning (aluminium foil, salt and baking soda in a water base) is not recommended, however, special metal plates can be purchased and these are used with washing soda that work fabulously.

STORING SILVER
Once cleaned and polished, silver must be kept dry and properly stored. Our bags and boxes will protect from abrasion and offer a degree of tarnish prevention.

If the climate is humid, place a small packet of demoisturising crystals (silica gel) inside the bag.
