I'm sure it won't be long before this FABULOUS movie is released on DVD.
In preparation for this monumental occasion I thought that I would offer a few of my humble comments on this masterpiece.

***It contains NO spoilers***

For the uninitiated, let me begin by saying:
  • There is a lot of blood.....A LOT! (What would you expect when the 'hero' is a serial killer?)
  • The music is by Sondheim (a testament to Tim Burton's brilliance - I have FINALLY been able to not only sit through a Sondheim musical, but actually enjoy it!...........I am now ducking for cover from all the irate SS afficionados :) )
If you haven't seen it on the big screen, do so, if possible, BEFORE you watch it on the small screen.  I first saw it from the second row of the cinema and it was MAGNIFICENT!

It is classic Tim Burton - visually, very similar to the Corpse Bride and Edward Scissorhands.  There are the almost monochromatic, dark scenes, contrasted with 'cartoony' bright scenes (Mrs Lovett's daydream, for example).....my kind of eye-candy!

Speaking of eye-candy, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter.....BRILLIANT (and they can actually sing!.....Is there no end to their talent?)

If you 'get' the humour it is VERY funny.  I guess, for some, it will work as a horror movie?????? maybe?????

The best summation is that it is a visual feast.  Tim Burton is a genius (but then, you don't need me to tell you that, do you?)  This has just knocked Edward Scissorhands off the top of my list.

A final note of caution - for those of you who have been on another planet and are unaware that this musical has been around for quite a while - check that any Sweeney Todd items are of the version that you want.  There are DVDs, cast recordings, etc of other stage and screen versions, so read the listing carefully.
