What is the best cheap car DVD player? You should only pay for functions and not the brand. Here you’ll find out what’s hot and what’s not and how to save some money too.

Car DVD players are on track to becoming one of the best aftermarket additions to the car since…fluffy dice.

Now days all the modern car manufacturers are jumping on the band wagon and including GPS, rear view camera system and making compatible music players like iPod and MP3 connectible systems, which is great as long as you have 3 to 4 thousand dollars for a factory fitted unit.

Well there are options available, you can save up to 75% on a fitted car DVD unit simply buy shopping around or asking the right people. Once you start shopping around for an in-car DVD player, you’ll probably find it hard to find the right information. If you are not sure you can start by asking your friends that have one and had it installed.

eBay has lots of varieties of car DVD players at different price points to choose from, it also really important to buy locally, if something goes wrong, the last thing you need is to waste time and money trying to sort out the problem internationally.

Prices range from $300 to $900 on eBay, but remember, you get what you pay for. The lower priced units often don’t have all the functions, can cost extra for GPS, DVB-T, high resolution screen, even the antenna can be extra. Best value is around the $500 mark that way you get all the options and nothing else to pay if you choose the right seller. Choosing the right seller is hard enough, so make sure they actually trade IRL (In Real Life) by looking if they do Pickup, or have a retail outlet.

Some cool features that you should make sure are included is an 800x480 pixel LCD screen, this is really key, the high definition quality and millions of colours, will make sure your movies will be seen in crystal clear colour.

The GPS system is a modern day essential, they have made the transition from being exclusive to ubiquitous in only a few years. You’ll never have to worry about loosing your way, where’s the next turn, or fumbling around with a street directory, the GPS is not only capable of telling you which turn to take next, but also providing detailed mapping of your route via the BIG 7 inch touch screen, in 3D or overhead 2D conventional mode.

DVB-T (digital TV) in Australia by late 2013, analogue TV channels will be discontinued, taken over by digital TV. Currently all the free to air channels have digital services, with plenty more channels being added all the time, so don’t buy analogue TV devices that will be phased out. But BEWARE, even the best units on the market cannot make a great TV signal out of a poor signal in your area.

Finally, installing your unit, now you have found the best car DVD player, it’s probably the most important part of the process. My advice is don’t muck around trying to do it yourself, unless you know about electronics get a professional to do it, trust me it’s better than the alterative of crossing wires and potentially causing a short circuit and destroying your new unit, or worse.

Prices for a decent installer range from $280 to $400 depending on the install, if you have a reversing camera or need a face plate, other stuff to install, the prices will go up accordingly. Make sure you do your homework, ask questions about previous installs they have completed, if they have installed in your make of car, have they won any awards, really come across like you know what your talking about even if you don’t, that way they’ll look after you.

So, there you have it, in simple terms a brand new 2 DIN in-car DVD player with GPS, DVB-T, LCD screen, Bluetooth, iPod, MP3, professionally installed all for under $1000. Not to mention the value you’ve just added to your car.
