What is eBay’s best match search?

After the year 2009, all the searches on eBay were conducted as per their default search setting known as Best Match search. Traditionally, buyers would search for a particular item or listing by specifying criteria such as ending soonest, time, price etc. But now, the search is conducted in such a manner that the best results for a buyer are listed first and those that are not considered to be great matches are listed last.

Essential what Best Match does is to return results to the buyers that have the most relevance for them and which will provide the best value to the buyers. There are various factors that go into the calculation of best matches and relevant results. Some of these factors that sellers should try and optimize their listings for are:

- Price: Try and offer great competitive prices for your products
- Feedback and DSR: This is an important factor for determining best match results. Sellers who consistently get good feedback and have high Detailed Seller rating, usually appear higher in best match searches.
- Title and descriptions: Do include relevant keywords in the title without any misspellings and make sure the descriptions are accurate.
- Pictures: Availability of good photos with the listing.
- Shipping costs: Reasonable shipping or outrageous?
- Free postage: Sellers offering free packing or handling usually have their listings placed higher in best match searches.

Thus, by ensuring best practices and good customer service, sellers can ensure that the best match system proves to be a beneficial one for them.
