What's in a name?
Each of us was given a name the moment we were born, and for some even months before they were born. Our society values names so much that it will be generally unimaginable for us to meet someone who doesn’t have a name. In fact, for some, a name is very important as it identifies the person and without it, others will find it difficult to identify you and technically, no records of you can be made and it’s like you don’t exist. The person’s name is also one of the first questions we ask people when we meet them for the first time.
There are even blog posts about helping or giving parents some tips on how to name their children and what to consider when giving a name. Many parents believe that a person’s name holds a certain power to shape a child’s self esteem and in a way his or her identity as a person. Some parents may even feel pressured during the stage of choosing a name due to the fact that it’s a permanent decision. It’s something that you cannot easily change whenever you want to.
A name is also viewed to a certain extent as a marketing tool with famous artists being famous and easily remembered for their unique names. Others see a name as something that affects how other people see another as a person to the extent that the name of a child can affect what grades he or she can get in school.
So when the name necklace’s popularity surged again, I began to wonder. What could possibly be the reason that a name necklace or any name jewelry for that matter has managed to maintain its appeal to individuals from all walks of life? So for this blog, we thought that it would be interesting to gather and enumerate some possibilities as to why many of us are drawn to own a piece of jewelry with names written on it.
It’s our name and to a certain extent we are attached to it.
Yes, some people do feel that their name is a representation of themselves and that no matter what they do, they are attached to it, and it’s already a part of who they are as a person so they embrace the name wholeheartedly and are proud of wearing it on literally.
There are people who just really love their name.
I cannot say that everyone in the world like their name but there are some who really do, and one way to manifest that “like” or love is by owning your own name jewelry. It’s like wearing something you really like and something that represents you and saying, “This is me, this is my name, I like it, and I’m proud of it.”
Name necklaces or name jewelry in general are gorgeous and stylish but affordable.
It is the perfect accessory for the feminine, the romantic, the chic, and anyone in between. It is simple yet posh enough to enhance your outfit and style. It is a subtle jewelry which is not attention grabbing but has enough character to get noticed. This pretty jewelry piece comes in all price points so those who want to know how it feels like to have one don’t really have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars – joining the name necklace trend is not that difficult.
It is a personalized and unique accessory.
We’ve all heard or some of us have heard our parents say, “You are you, and you are unique.” And in a world full of copycats, some of us struggle to stand out instead of fitting in. A name necklace is something that’s uniquely yours especially if you have a unique name, and it is something that can be personalized as well to a font you desire or add some bling to it if you wish.
It was worn by a celebrity/fashion icon in one of the well loved TV series.
I think this played an important factor why the name necklace’s popularity resurged. Hollywood fashion and these celebrities, even if we deny it, play a great role in imposing on us (non-celebrities) how we should look, dress, what we should buy, what’s in and what’s not. So when people saw how inexpensive yet priceless the Carrie name necklace was for a television character-slash-fashion icon, it was an instant hit.
I will have to clarify though that although a few people think that names are relevant and affects the way we live, there are some who thinks that a name is unimportant. For those who don’t consider a name as an integral part of oneself, they’re view is it’s just a name, a label like any other labels and does not define nor change the actual self. It’s like, even if you call me by my real name or the wrong name, it doesn’t change me so it’s fine.
If you love your name and you think its pretty then feel free to get a name necklace with your name on it. If you’re not a big fan of your name but would want to have a name jewelry that has another name or word on it, feel free to personalize the item to bear the name or word you want. Therefore I say, whether you view a name as important or not very much, or you have a different view about it, a name necklace or name jewelry is simply a pretty accessory that anyone can try regardless of the name.
