Sometimes we just can't afford to buy top of the line Seymour Duncan's (Or other brand name) for a project. So what is a good affordable pickup to tie me over untill i can afford an expensive high end brand name?

Wilkinson Zebras (WVHZB & WVHZN).

I needed a set of pickups for an 1968 Emperador SG that were a little hotter/more gain than the 41 year old factory installed Maxon pickups. I really liked the look of Zebras and just could not afford to buy a really high end brand. So after a little research i purchased a set of Wilkinson Zebras for around $70AUD brand new. I was not expecting much, but after installing them i was surprized to find they had an awesome sound. These in my opinion are a medium to high gain pickup. I use alot of distortion and these preform well delivering the spine shattering sound i love. Clean thay are a little darker than others, warm with no unnatural noise. At full volume under distortion they do tend to feed back a little but this is not uncontrollable noise. There overall sound is HUGE for such an affordable price. I have not removed these from the guitar for replacement as i do not feel i need to. They do the job i need and preform well. I like the Wilkinson brand as an affordable alternative. In my experience there well made and look great. So if your looking for a cheap solution with out losing quality, try the Zebras. I have a few guitars now with these installed.
