A derma micro-needle roller, also known as a dermaroller, is a hand held device used for home beauty treatments. The equipment consists of a small plastic roller covered in small needles, which puncture the skin. Derma micro-needles are used to help remove skin blemishes, old acne scars, stretch marks and to rejuvenate the skin. Micro-needle rollers operate on the principle that by removing the epidermal skin, younger, fresher skin will grow back to take it's place.

Instructions

Establish a sterile environment. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, rubbing vigorously for about fifteen seconds. The area to be treated must then be washed thoroughly as well. Soak a new derma micro-needle roller in 70 percent alcohol disinfectant for two minutes before use. Fill a large glass with disinfectant and place the roller in the glass
Numb the area with a topical anesthetic gel a before the procedure, if you prefer. This is not necessary. Applying this gel will allow you to use more pressure with the micro-needle. Follow the instructions on the bottle and apply the gel to the affected area.
Roll the device back and forth. This should be done four times in four strokes. Vertical, horizontal and diagonal on each side. Apply with slight pressure, if you decided to use an anesthetic gel, increase the pressure. The treatment should not cause pain but a tingling sensation may be felt. If blood is drawn, stop the procedure immediately.
Wash the treated area with cold water, and dry thoroughly. Apply moisturizer rich in Vitamin C and E. These vitamins help in collagen production.
Rinse the micro-needle with hot running water after used. If numbing cream was used with it, fill a large glass half full of disinfectant solution and leave it there for 30 minutes to one hour. Shake off excess liquid after use and leave it on a clean towel to dry.
Repeat the procedure no more than once per day.

Tips & Warnings
You may experience redness for a few days after the procedure. Use sunscreen if going out in the sun.
Do not put the derma micro-needle away while it is still wet as it will be damaged.
The derma micro-needle is for personal use only. Do not share it with other people.
Do not use the device on sunburned areas, open cuts or other sore and sensitive areas of the skin.
Do not use the device if there are active herpes lesions and acne pustules.

How does Derma Rolling work?
Although there are no outward signs of damage, one single micro needle causes a tiny wound in the skin. You cannot see it or feel it as the damage is on a minute scale. Despite the minuscule nature of the wound, the body still acts to heal itself in its own natural way.
The post traumatic response of the skin is to produce collagen and elastin - two of the key building blocks of skin. As there has been no removal or “real” damage to existing collagen, the new formations of it simply add to existing levels.
Imagine now that on a typical roller, there are 192 needles. If when using the Derma Roller the skin is rolled six times (back and forth in three directions), this is over a thousand needle entries, all of which will act to stimulate new collagen fibres. It is not difficult to see that over time, this will act to massively increase the thickness, suppleness and general condition of the skin in the areas it is used on.
