THE BRIDGE SCHOOL CONCERTS collects live performances from charity concerts organized by Neil Young to benefit The Bridge School, which assists children with severe speech and physical impairments in learning to communicate. Recorded over a 10-year span (1986-1996), the album features a wide and impressive assortment of superstars performing their hits for the cause. The instrumental arrangements are as varied as the roster, from Beck's solo "It's All In Your Mind" to The Pretenders' full string section treatment of "Sense Of Purpose."Young himself gives a solid, touching rendition of "I Am A Child," showing up elsewhere to perform "Alison" with Elvis Costello and "Believe" with Nils Lofgren. Solo performances include Tom Petty's "Shadow Of A Doubt (A Complex Kid)" and Tracy Chapman's "All That You Have Is Your Soul." Quite a few covers show up, and each is an inspired choice: Nancy and Ann Wilson earnestly belt out "The Battle Of Evermore," while Don Henley and friends sing The Beatles' "Yes It Is," but it is Ministry's unsettlingly straightforward acoustic take of "Friend Of The Devil" which provides the album's most uncharacteristic moment.
What do Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen and Beck all have incommon? They have all Performed at The Bridge School Concerts. Since 1986 these shows have become A Bay Area Tradition. This 1997 CD is a Sampler of the Magic that has occured at Shoreline and the Oakland Coliseum (1988). This CD opens (as do shows) with Neil (with only an acoustic guitar & harmonica) playing a song or two. This one is "I Am The Child, that Buffalo Springfield chestnut. He turns the stage over to his "Guests", First up is Tom Petty, doing "Shadow Of A Doubt". The rule is that everyone plays on acoustic instruments so well known tunes become altered greatly from their original form, and this is done to keep the volume on stage at a lower noise level because lot's of the Bridge School kids are on stage throughout these long concerts. The Pretenders with The Duke String Quartet and Beck are up next and they don't sound anything like you've heard them before...These are one time performances and that's what makes The Bridge Concerts so special. Don Henley does the Beatles, Ministry does The Dead and Ann & Nancy Wilson do Led Zeppelin. This simply, is a GREAT CD
I am selling about 500 American copies of CDs. All are new. These come from a warehouse clearance. Some are promotional copies; others are standard retail copies. Starting price is just 10 cents a CD.
This will be my final sale season (and will probably run till end of May) as I am finding it too hard to source more stuff at a reasonable price.
Many are rare / obscure
/ never released in Australia.
Some come with different artwork; check the format description. Note that some have been in storage uncased for up to 20 years so may have small surface marking; where they do I have checked that they play perfectly.
All are sold without
plastic cases unless specifically stated as this reduces your postage cost, though some are in digipacks if that was how they were released. I can supply plastic cases but these are $1 extra to cover cost of the case plus extra postage.
Unfortunately Australia Post are raising their charges from 1 April so I have to add a small amount.
Postage is $2.20 each for first and second item, then $1.10 per item for additional CDs over 2. For bigger orders I can ship up to 500 grams (10 regular CDs) for $8.
International buyers add $6 to the total. Because countries vary, if it costs less I'll refund the difference. For example up to 250 grams (3 CDs without cases) to the USA, Canada or UK is $7.50
New Zealand - $5.50 for first item, then $1 per item for additional CDs
