Ry Cooder spent the 1970s making a small pile of extremely cool records. One of them was BOOMER'S STORY. In 1972 Cooder was one of the hippest slide guitarists around. His singing, like his rhythm chops and arranging skills, has always been funky and distinctive. His taste for all things groovy and American and his breadth of knowledge (and/or willingness to seek out the missing details when necessary) led him to arrange his albums around themes.
BOOMER'S STORY leans on the music of the 1930s and 40s for its text, yet avoids becoming a mere period piece.Lopsided backbeats, horn parts, barrelhouse piano, and blues mandolin licks all go into the gumbo, and come out sounding just right. Skip James' "Cherry Ball Blues," the soul classic "Dark End of the Street" and the ballad "Maria Elena" all get instrumental treatment, with textures that range from the aching to the raucous. Cooder covers Sleepy John Estes' "Ax Sweet Mama," then gets Estes himself to guest on "President Kennedy." The sideman situation throughout is in excellent hands, with Randy Newman sitting in on piano and longtime Cooder associate Jim Keltner on drums.
I am selling lots of American copies of CDs. All are new. These come from a warehouse clearance. Some are promotional copies; others are standard retail copies; many are rare out-of-print. Starting price is just 10 cents a CD.
The end is closer - we are definitely in the last month of sales. Final sale night will be Sunday 29th June. I have kept some of the best till last.
It has been fun, 2 years and over 6000 CDs sold. Lots of fantastic customers, thank you so much and I hope I have succeeded in unearthing some interesting obscurities. I will miss you and the kind messages that I have received.
Many are rare / obscure
/ never released in Australia.
Some come with different artwork; check the format description. Note that some have been in storage uncased for up to 20 years so may have small surface marking; where they do I have checked that they play perfectly.
All are sold without
plastic cases unless specifically stated as this reduces your postage cost, though some are in digipacks if that was how they were released. I can supply plastic cases but these are $1 extra to cover cost of the case plus extra postage.
Postage is $2.20 each for first and second item, then $1.10 per item for additional CDs over 2. For bigger orders I can ship up to 500 grams (10 regular CDs) for $7.50.
International buyers add $6 to the total. Because countries vary, if it costs less I'll refund the difference. For example up to 250 grams (3 CDs without cases) to the USA, Canada or UK is $7.20
New Zealand - $5.50 for first item, then $1 per item for additional CDs
