Regardless of its title, Born to Be Blue is less a blues album than a jazz, country, Texas swing, folk, and/or bluegrass one. In fact, Toni Price combines these genres so seamlessly that each track generally incorporates at least a few styles. This is Price's most diverse and laid-back release, with its easygoing vibe reinforced by the singer occasionally calling out cues for musicians to solo. Beautifully produced by Price and Derek O'Brien (who has worked on all six of her albums), her soulful voice is stunning in its comfy, lazy groove. Although she can belt out songs -- as witnessed on previous releases -- that's not the approach favored here. She caresses and cradles these tunes, never rushing or infusing false emotions. The listener is swept up in the predominantly acoustic, sparse accompaniment, which allows Price's supple voice room to float around the lithe melodies. Whether this is a direct result of the success of the similarly styled Norah Jones is hard to tell, but certainly the same audience that enjoyed that jazz/blues/pop singer's debut would appreciate this. Not a songwriter, Price unearths obscure gems from Dr. John (a previously unreleased "Clouds" accompanied by interlaced acoustic guitars from O'Brien, Casper Rawls, and famed Elvis sideman James Burton), a bluesy "Rain Down Tears" (originally done by Hank Ballad and the Midnighters, and performed here by the same sublime guitar trio), and the Mel Torm-penned title track. The string quartet on the closing "One of These Lonely Days" perfectly complements, but doesn't overwhelm the tune.

It adds up to 45 minutes of magnificent, lovingly performed low-key music that seems to be made without regard for commercial considerations. ~ Hal Horowitz

I am selling about 500 American copies of CDs. All are new. These come from a warehouse clearance. Some are promotional copies; others are standard retail copies. Starting price is just 10 cents a CD.

This will be my final sale season (and will probably run till end of May) as I am finding it too hard to source more stuff at a reasonable price.

Many are rare / obscure / never released in Australia. Some come with different artwork; check the format description. Note that some have been in storage uncased for up to 20 years so may have small surface marking; where they do I have checked that they play perfectly.

All are sold without plastic cases unless specifically stated as this reduces your postage cost, though some are in digipacks if that was how they were released. I can supply plastic cases but these are $1 extra to cover cost of the case plus extra postage.

Unfortunately Australia Post are raising their charges from 1 April so I have to add a small amount.

Postage is $2.20 each for first and second item, then $1.10 per item for additional CDs over 2. For bigger orders I can ship up to 500 grams (10 regular CDs) for $8.

International buyers add $6 to the total. Because countries vary, if it costs less I'll refund the difference. For example up to 250 grams (3 CDs without cases) to the USA, Canada or UK is $7.50

New Zealand - $5.50 for first item, then $1 per item for additional CDs
