The Nikkor 20mm f2.8 D has been manufactured since 1989, and is manufactured from real metal so it has a solid feel, but is light-weight and small. Not like the newer plastic G lenses. The 20mm AF-D is unobtrusive on my camera body and easy to carry. The only disadvantage I perceive is that my Lee 100mm filter system for landscapes etc will not fit. However, I always have the option of just holding the filter in front of the lens to achieve the same results. While this is an older design lens, the auto focus works perfectly on my Nikon D850. Another advantage with this lens, is that the light-weight makes it more appropriate for my wife to use rather than having to heft a large, newer technology lens around. While this lens was second hand, it was in mint condition and it produces beautifully sharp images, with good micro contrast and colour saturation. I am very happy with this lens.Read full review

Beautiful simple lens, great wide angle shots, no fuss. Everything is as you would expect but not as super razor sharp as the 16-35mm I also own (which uses much newer optics). But hey this little lens is MUCH lighter for travel so not really fair to compare with a big chunky 16-33mm. Just a pleasant lens to own and use, recommended.
This is one of the classic Nikon lenses for use on film or full frame digital cameras. It comes from a long line of 20mm Nikon lenses dating back to 1967, and most serious photographers have one for landscape, indoor and other work where a wide field of view is required. The D version of the lens has been in production since 1993 and is still available new. It has a well deserved reputation for sharpness while being light and compact enough to carry anywhere. On DX format cameras, the focal length is equivalent to about 30mm in FX terms, still a very useful focal length. For casual walk-around photography and serious landscape work, this focal length is often ideal for the vast majority of situations. Overall a lens of high quality and usefulness.
